Back in the very early days of wedding photography (the late 1800′s and early 1900′s) a Bride and Groom would arrive at a photographers studio for wedding portraits after they were married. Due to the bulky photography equipment of the time you never saw wedding photographers at a ceremony or reception. And with the lack of paper photographic reproduction materials needed for mass replication, couple’s had few tangible memories of their Wedding day. The basic function of a wedding photographer (back then) was to document the couple’s marriage with a simple photograph. After World War 2 that all changed when former military photographers, armed with their new lightweight cameras, portable flashes and rolled film, took the documentation of weddings in new and different directions; what emerged was early forms of candid photography and wedding photojournalism. Today wedding photographers are everywhere; many even spending the entire day photographing everything and everyone at your wedding. While there are many wonderful images to be captured of your special day, it’s not always affordable for some couples. With wedding photography costs averaging upwards of $2,500 or more for a full-day of coverage and given this tough economic climate we are living–it’s time to revisit some of the old tried and true methods of wedding photography combined with the technology of the 21st Century.

Rangefinder Magazine August 2011 – Best Friends Photo Contest

Back in March of this year I submitted a few portraits I took of a couple of dogs, one in particular of a little Dachshund puppy named Watson. I didn’t think much about it and just wanted to put my work out there for people to see outside of my website.

In mid July I received an email from the editor of Rangefinder Magazine asking me to submit a hi-res version of my winning photo for publication. I didn’t get any other details about it from the email and had to wait for the August issue to be released. I was over the moon to find out that my portrait won second place in the category My Pet and Me in one of the most recognized magazines in the world!
